Japan thinks smartphones are destroying students’ eyesight

The eyesight of Japan's students is deteriorating and the country's government thinks smartphones are to blame.
A recent survey conducted by Japan's Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology found that the number of students with vision below the standard 1.0 score (equivalent to 20/20 vision) is at an all-time high of 25.3 percent. Worse still, just over 67 percent of high school students and more than 34 percent of elementary students didn't meet the bar.
The government is attributing the trend to "increased time spent staring at [smartphone] screens...and mobile games."
Smartphone gaming is huge in Japan: the country is the world's third largest gaming market, according to market researcher Newzoo, and a large chunk of those gamers play mobile games (41 percent of men and 32 percent of women).
Still, it's important to note that an increase in screen time isn't proven to ruin your eyesight -- though experts warn that extended periods of exposure to blue light emitted from smartphones can cause eye strain or fatigue.
Japan isn't the only nation talking tough. Earlier this year, China (the world's biggest gaming market) threatened to take real action to protect children's eyesight, including regulating the number of online games and new releases, and limiting gaming time.
The announcement cited World Health Organization data suggesting the country has the highest rate of childhood near-sightedness in the world.

FBI HACKED IPHONE 11 in 2months

Lev Parnas, seen here in December 2019. Photo: Seth Wenig (AP) The U.S. Department of Justice claimed in a  letter to a federal judge  this week that it took almost two months for the FBI to break into an iPhone 11 owned by Lev Parnas, a former associate of Donald Trump’s lawyer, Rudy Giuliani, who has been sucked into the sprawling impeachment mess facing the White House,  Bloomberg reported  on Tuesday. That the FBI managed to unlock the device at all may raise eyebrows, given that the DOJ and FBI have both recently ramped up pressure campaigns claiming they  desperately need Apple’s assistance  to unlock its devices and demanding Apple  build backdoors into its encryption . Parnas claims he acted as a fixer in Trump’s scheme to coerce the Ukrainian government into launching a sham investigation of Democratic presidential candidate Joe Biden by withholding nearly $400 million in defense aid—the matter at the center of the ongoing...

You Know We Can See the Apple Watches You Snuck Into the Impeachment Trial, Right?

Photo :  Gizmodo The impeachment trial of President Donald Trump is officially underway in the Senate, and there are a few  rules of decorum in place  designed to keep senators focused on the historic task at hand. The only beverages allowed in the Senate Chamber during the trial are water (fine) and milk (I have questions). The only food senators can partake in is from an under-the-radar candy stash. Phones and other electronic devices are prohibited. This all makes sense, except for the milk thing: The orders exist to prevent distractions. But a handful of senators have been spotted wearing their Apple Watches in what appears to be a flagrant disregard for the rules. Or maybe they just forgot to take them off. Either way, Republican Sens. John Cornyn (Texas), Mike Lee (Utah), Tim Scott (South Carolina), Jerry Moran (Kansas), John Thune (South Dakota), and James Lankford (Oklahoma) were all  seen in the Senate chambers  going about their business wear...
